Summer is finally home in Alaska.
The leaves are green, the water is clear and (mostly) mosquito-free. The animals are waking up and by all intents and purposes, we skipped spring and headed straight to summer in a period of about 48 hours.
The world is renewed, and I intend to follow suit. This is a threshold that has me thinking of what I can do to make myself better and stronger, both spiritually and physically.
My summer break will consist largely of getting out there and camping, swimming, hiking, and POSSIBLY fishing (not really my thing, but it’s part of the summer experience). All this stuff is intended to help whip me into shape and lose some of this extra bulk I’ve been carrying the last few years, but do it in a way that doesn’t strike me as actively “working out”. In so doing, I will refresh my spirit with that of the outdoors and also the harder work such simple relaxation provides.
Climb a mountain. Make yourself strong.
Breath the clean air. Make yourself pure.
Be among nature. Become part of it.
If only for a little while.
Summer is here. Let’s make the most of it.
