Alice Meets Her Queen

The Queen’s music filled the air
A true experience to behold
A symphony soared with sound most fair
It rang clear, as jewels and gold.

The world that is was redefined
A monumental feat
And Alice listened as she pined
To see the Queen and meet.

The Queen delighted in this sound
And bade dear Alice near
She watched as Alice came with happy bound
The Queen asked “What think you, Alice dear?”

Alice’s eyes were all aflutter
“Ma’am, I think it beautiful as all the day,”
Alice said with a single shudder,
“I should greatly wish to hear more, if I may.”

The Queen’s eyes sparkled and she gave a smile,
“Of course you may stay, Alice dear,
Please do stay for a longer while,
Just beware that all is not comfort here.”

“What do you mean?” asked little Alice.
“I can also be quite cruel.” said the Queen
The Queen took a sip from her chalice.
“I have a reputation for being rather mean.”

“I might break you or hurt you,
I may even poison your mind.
I might shame you or stick you
But I will always fix you, for I am not unkind.”

Alice smiled and shook her head
“I have a feeling about you,”
She kissed the Queen’s hand and said,
“And about this, I know my feelings are true.”

“Very well,” said the Queen, “You have asked, so you shall stay.”
Alice giggled, curtsied and bowed.
“But also expect music of the night as well as the day.”
And kneeling there, her loyalty to the Queen was what Alice vowed.
